Cancer isn’t a word that we thought would be associated with my husband at age 27.
On July 22, 2020, Sawyer was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He was one month into residency as a new doctor when we received the news.
It’s right to weep & be broken over brokenness, but the people of God have hope in the midst of sorrow. After all, we have a Savior who is deeply, deeply acquainted with our grief. On dark days, the light of our Lord’s glory will shine even brighter and His promises will never prove to be more precious. We are choosing to trust in the name that is above every other name, Jesus. His name is above cancer.
We know this burden is too heavy for us to bear alone, and so we covet your prayers and support in the days to come. The Lord has already been so gracious to us with Sawyer’s residency program being outrageously kind and supportive and getting us scheduled for several appointments at MD Anderson Cancer Center with their specialists just a few days after the diagnosis. Not to mention how He’s blessed us with a literal flood of love, support, and prayer from our family and friends near and far. We are eternally grateful for you all.
For our Savior loves us so, He will hold us fast. The verse that was the anthem for our wedding day a year and a half ago is still our anthem today, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope, without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” - Hebrews 10:23
