CT Scan No. 3

Friends and family, thank you for checking in on us throughout the day and for continuing to pray for us! Sawyer met with the oncologist this morning to discuss the results of his most recent CT scan. The main tumor in his esophagus is stable and has not changed in size which is a good thing. Praise God! However, one of his lung nodules which had been significantly shrunk has grown larger, though it is still quite small. This was scary news to us, but we are very thankful that where the nodule is located happens to be a very easy spot to target with radiation. He also met with the radiation oncologist today who told us that the radiation for the lung nodule has a 95% chance of completely eradicating that growing nodule. Praise God that if something had to grow it only grew in a location that is very easy to target and should have very minimal to no side effects and has such a great likelihood of being taken care of. We are thankful that overall things are staying pretty steady despite this one bad spot and thankful to get good news of a pretty good shot at a solution to this new problem the same day we got the news of it. He will have an endoscopy on Monday to biopsy some lymph nodes around the esophagus to give us more information to guide the doctors on whether or not we will proceed with radiation to the esophagus tumor in addition to the lung spot we will for sure be zapping soon. This coming Tuesday, the results of these biopsies and his scan will be brought before the tumor board at MD Anderson, where dozens of oncologists meet to talk over Sawyer’s case and put their big brains together to help guide us on whether or not to add the esophagus radiation and what our other next steps should be. We tell each other often, “One day at a time.” Some days are up, some are down, and some go back and forth it seems by the hour or even the minute. But we are grateful to have so much help, grateful that so far things seem to be going pretty favorably, and thankful that the latest frightening thing seems to have a strong answer. We are also deeply thankful to be held by a God who cares for us and who is never scared of cancer, or anything else. He has got this!! We will update everyone again when we know more next week.

“You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!” Psalm 118:28-29

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus be upon you,

- Sawyer + Amy
